The Great Migration

Considering our pending arrival at the end of the summer, we need to clear out some space in this (tiny) house.  What is now the KSY office will become a nursery.  That, my friends, is a giant migration.  You know, considering it usually looks like this:
And as of last night, our living room looked like this:
Cue my panic.  We are in trouble.

I actually considered buying a Groupon coupon for a professional organizer consultation.  Nick considered calling Hoarders.  I think we need to meet somewhere in the middle.

I need to get rid of some old supplies.  I need to be less messy when I work.  I need smaller office furniture.  I need a margarita.

Darn it.

So here is my plan.  I'm going to do a giant purge of the house.  Everything we don't need, use, or want is getting thrown away or donated.  Extra flowers, ribbon, and supplies that I am unlikely to use are going to be sold in bulk on Ebay (unless any of you want them).  A new desk will be purchased, or I will convince Nick to attempt to cut my desk in half so it fits better in our bedroom (I'm not kidding).  The baby's future closet will be cleaned, organized, and rid of excess KSY supplies.  Everything left over from KSY will migrate to our bedroom in a neat and orderly fashion.  And I'll get myself some lemon water in lieu of alcohol.

I think they call this "nesting".

When I am working in the office, I often look around the room and remind myself in less than 6 months a baby will be living here.  The pile of baby items we've begun to acquire is mounting in a pile on the bed.  And when I have these thoughts, I look at everything KSY related and think, "Get out.  Get out!  Get OUT of our baby's room!"  And then I usually throw something in the trash.

Totally normal, right?

  2. Oh, how I was in your shoes two years ago. We made the baby share with the office from birth - 15 months. Then I decided I couldn't take it anymore and reorganized the whole apartment. We share with the office and baby gets his own room, complete with play table. If I had it to do over I would have reorganized sooner and bought a rocker for the nursery. So purge away - totally normal. And if you have room at all, buy a rocker. For as much as he ends up in our bed or two us on the couch it would have been worth it.
